Olive trees are among the longest living cultivated plants in the world. Many bear fruit for centuries, and some trees around the Mediterranean are estimated to be over a thousand years old. With age their trunk becomes gnarled and often hollow, yet the tree keeps on sprouting.
Even when an old trunk dies, the olive tree often sends up new shoots from its roots. That is how olive groves accompany families over many generations. Our Ölich Olive Oil comes from a family that has tended olive groves in Edremit since 1785.
