There are over a thousand olive varieties worldwide. Each has its own taste, fruit size and oil content. Well known examples are Koroneiki from Greece, Picual and Arbequina from Spain, Frantoio from Italy and Memecik, Ayvalık and Gemlik from Turkey.
As with grapes in wine, the variety shapes the character of the oil: mild or bold, grassy or fruity. Our Ölich Olive Oil is made from Memecik alone, from Edremit. Soft and fresh on the attack, with a fine peppery finish.
