Olive oil is pure fat and provides around 880 kilocalories per 100 grams. A tablespoon, about 10 to 12 grams, therefore has around 90 to 110 kilocalories. This applies equally to all olive oils, whether mild or bold.
Because olive oil brings plenty of flavour, a little often goes a long way. A tablespoon over salad or vegetables is enough. In Mediterranean cooking it is the main fat for almost every dish.
